Friends and relatives of  Isaac Atkinson made  giant steps towards building a skatepark in  memory of the Holmfirth  teenager.

Isaac’s dad Paul and  step-mum Sandra led a  sponsored walk on Saturday  from Elland Skatepark to Sands  Rec Skatepark, Holmfirth,  which was 14-year-old Isaac’s  favourite hang-out.

The Skate4Isaac group,  which stopped en route at  Greenhead Park, Newsome,  and Honley skateparks, hopes  to raise £55,000 for an extension  to the Sands Rec Skatepark.

The walking group, which  included over 30 of Isaac’s  friends and relatives, is expected  to raise £3,000, bringing the  total raised to £18,000.

On Sunday, Isaac’s family and  friends held a skating session at  Sands Rec Skatepark with  prizes.

Isaac’s dad, Paul, said: “It’s  been fantastic. It was a really  good walk. We started with  about 20 kids and seven adults  and by the end of the walk we  had about 35 people.”

Step-mum, Sandra, added:  “We’ve been absolutely  delighted with the turnout; I  can’t thank the kids enough.

“Also James Crossland, of  Wishes gift shop, has been  amazing; he’s given us money as  well as Mars bars and prizes.”

The skatepark currently comprises a couple of ramps, a rail  and some ‘fun boxes’.

But Skate4Isaac wants to add  a stair set with handrails, more  ramps and a bowl.

In February, a metal bench  shaped like two skateboards and  decorated with images of Isaac’s  favourite things was unveiled in  the teenager’s honour.

Skate4Isaac has held a gig at  Holmfirth Picturedrome, skate  sessions at Sands Rec, bag packing at Holmfirth Co-op, a coffee  morning at the Farmers Arms  and other events for the cause.

Former Holmfirth High  School pupil, Isaac,  of Burnlee  Road, Holmfirth,  was found  hanged in his bedroom on June  22, 2012,  by his father and stepmother.
