Families lapped up the fun at a birthday party with a difference on Saturday.

A Family Fun Day was held as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations for Mirfield-based bedding firm John Cotton.

The firm, which employs around 600 people, is marking a century in business by pledging to raise £100,000 for charity this year.

The fun day, held next to the factory on Battyeford playing fields, off Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, aimed to raise £10,000 towards the target.

Charities to benefit from the firm’s efforts include Kirkwood Hospice, the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service and the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

The fun day included a space hopper race, fancy dress competition, stalls and games but it wasn’t just for the kids.

The firm’s factory shop was back in business for the day doing a roaring trade selling discounted duvets, pillows and bedding items.

“We have set a target of raising £100,000 for local charities with a number of exciting events and fundraising activities taking place throughout the year to help us reach the total.”
