A SINGLE mother and her eight children have been branded ‘animals’ after they trashed a flat causing £15,000 of damage.

Landlord Kishan Lola claimed windows had been smashed, wiring ripped from the walls and rotting food left on the surfaces, floors, walls and furniture in his six-bedroom flat, on Close Hill Lane, Newsome.

The family, who left suddenly after racking up seven weeks’ unpaid rent, had broken window frames, left graffiti on the walls, smashed furniture and thrown dirty nappies out of the window.

Julius Baracskay, a friend of Mr Lola who helps manage his properties, said there was what appeared to be excrement on one of the walls.

Mr Baracskay says all furniture, beds and carpets have had to be thrown out because of the ‘horrendous’ condition in which they were left.

He added that the fire alarms and burglar alarm had been ripped from the ceiling and walls and thrown around.

Mr Baracskay said: “This is the worst state I’ve ever seen a property in. It’s like there were animals living in there.

“There’s food that’s gone off on plates in the bedrooms.

“We’ve had to throw everything away from top to bottom.

“We’ve had a bit of trouble in the past – the odd tenant – but nothing like this before.

“It definitely makes us more worried about getting people vetted before we have any tenants again.

“We feel sorry for the woman but you don’t expect this sort of damage.

“The smell when you walk in was horrendous.

“It’s £15,000 worth of damage at a minimum.

“The landlord used to live here and he’d put in some of the best stuff he had bought.”
