AN Australian visitor is to tell the story of an old Huddersfield family at a special presentation at the town's Central Library.

David Hutton will be presenting a book, A History of the Quarmby Family in Australia.

Mr Hutton is the great grandson of Richard Quarmby, who was born in Huddersfield and emigrated to Melbourne 150 years ago.

The Quarmby family recently celebrated its 150th anniversary in Melbourne with more than 100 family members attending.

The book, compiled by John and Ken Quarmby contains a family tree.

The Quarmby family was first mentioned in Huddersfield during the 13th century.

They lived in Quarmby and moved to Pontefract in 1379.

However the Quarmby family was recorded again in Dalton from 1545.

Mr Hutton's presentation takes place at 2pm next Monday in the local history reference library.
