A FAMILY have had their pedigree pooch dognapped.

Alexander Courtney, 27, and girlfriend Heather Norton told police about the theft of their Japanese akita from their Primrose Hill home last Thursday.

The pair, who live on Lawton Street, had bought the dog, named Savannah, just after its birth six months ago as a joint birthday present for each other.

The dog cost £500.

Miss Norton, 21, said: "We had just put the dog in the garden on a chain.

"We were in the house at the time."

Miss Norton said that only minutes later they realised the dog was missing and went into the street.

She added: "We saw some workmen who told us they had seen two men go into the garden, unleash the dog and lead it away.

The family, which includes baby Joseph - who will be one next Monday - are heart- broken.

Miss Norton said: "We love her to bits. She really is a proper treasured pet. Joseph even knows there's something wrong when she's not around.

"We are all very upset."

A police spokesman said an officer had been to the couple's house and spoken to them.

He said officers were tracing two possible witnesses to the theft.
