HIGH winds failed to dampen the spirts of fundraisers who donned fancy dress for a sponsored walk to help a church.

Led by Ted Firth – known as Chief Two Bears for the day – 70 people came from as far as Nottinghamshire to complete circuits of Norman Park in Birkby.

Walkers included the church Brownies and members of the British Western Association.

The sponsored laps were done to raise cash for St Cuthbert’s Church roof restoration appeal.

The church needs £186,000 of work.

Mr Firth hopes to have raised £1,500.
