ELDERLY and disabled people will have to pay more to travel on West Yorkshire buses and trains from Sunday.

But the good news is that afternoon restrictions will be lifted.

The fare for senior and disabled permit holders will go up from 30p to 35p.

But holders will be able to use their passes at any time after 9.30am.

Currently, they have to pay half-fare if they travel between 3pm and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

The changes are coming in to force after being announced in January.

Metro chairman Clr Stanley King said: "A 35p maximum fare offers permit holders real value for money. And with the lifting of the afternoon time restrictions that value is increased.

"Metro's concessionary fare is the lowest in the country. It is, of course, now available to more people, since the qualification age for men has been lowered from 65 to 60."
