PUPILS of a village school have said farewell to their head teacher.

Mrs Beryl Smith has retired after nine years at Honley Infant School.

Gifts were presented to her at a special assembly attended by the children.

The presents included a specially commissioned painting of the school which will take pride of place in her home.

Mrs Smith, a teacher for 35 years in Kirklees, was previously head at Hepworth Junior and Infant School.

The new head is Mrs Christine Lancaster, with whom she has been job-sharing for the past 12 months as part of the transition.
