A pub has come up with a novel way of tempting customers.

The Farmer’s Arms, near Holmfirth, is a deservedly popular pub – for those who know where it is.

Now the out-of-the-way inn has commissioned photographer Andy Leader to research three stunning walks which start and end at its doors.

It is their way of promoting both their business and the stunning scenery of the Holme Valley.

The pub is tucked away in Liphill Bank Road, at Burnlee, a hundred yards from the main A635 Greenfield Road.

The resulting leaflet includes clear and simple directions for each walk and photographs of some of the local beauty spots.

Landlady, Danielle Montgomery, who has been at the pub since 2011 with Sam Page, hopes they will encourage people to discover the public footpaths around Upperthong.

Danielle said: “We are based in a great location for walking in Yorkshire but being a bit tucked away people often don’t pass us.

“We have had some walking maps printed with three different levels of walks, starting and finishing at the pub so people can leave their car here.

“We had a local photographer put the walks together to ensure they are safe and we distributed them around the area.

“Bank Holiday Sunday was very successful with people coming in for lunch after the walk. Unfortunately it was the only dry day of the weekend here but we have already had several large walking groups book for the next couple of weeks.

“The walks vary in length from 2.5 to 5 miles so there’s something for everyone. We have some beautiful countryside around here and there’s nothing better than going for a walk and knowing that there’s a pub, a pint and some good food at the other end.”

Leaflets are available from the pub or Holmfirth Tourist Information, Huddersfield Road.
