BUDDING music producers from Fartown High School are organising the recording of a CD to raise funds for the Laura Crane Trust.
Eight pupils at Fartown High launched a competition throughout Kirklees and recorded a marketing film to promote the challenge to 11 – 19-year-olds in the area.
The pupils worked in conjunction with the Laura Crane Trust and the Kirklees Young People’s Service to showcase the musical talent of young people through the ‘Fresh Vibez’project.
Young people were asked to write about issues that related to their lives and were urged to submit a recording of music which they had written and performed themselves.
And yesterday they went into the Soundwaves studio, off Beaumont Street in Huddersfield, to lay down tracks for the disc.
Helen Mervill, fundraising manager for the Laura Crane Trust said: “Budding artistes have been recording their tracks for the past few weeks and the CD will be produced and ready for release at the end of the month.
“The Fresh Vibez team applied for funding to cover the cost of the project, including the use of the professional recording studio, which was granted by Kirklees Council.”
A panel of judges comprising of the Fresh Vibez team, staff from Fartown High School and representatives of Soundwaves recording studio, selected the 12 best entries to be professionally recorded for the CD.
It will be officially premiered at a launch event at the Galpharm Stadium on June 29.
The CD will then be available to purchase from the Laura Crane Trust.
The trust was founded by the family of teenager Laura, a Greenhead College student, who died from a rare form of cancer.
Since then they have raised huge amounts of money to help children and young people suffering from cancer.
The charity, which is the only UK trust dedicated to funding research specifically for 13-24 year old cancer sufferers, would also like to hear from any local businesses that would like to take a stock of the CD to sell to raise funds.
If you would like to pre-order your copy of ‘Fresh Vibez’, or would like to request a stock of the CD to sell, please contact Helen at the Laura Crane Trust on 01484 510014 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
