A FARTOWN man has appeared in court accused of breaching a community order.

Simon Richards, of Abbey Road, was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

The bench was told that on November 18 he was given a community order by the court.

The order was imposed as a direct alternative to custody after Richards was found in possession of a knife and a quantity of Class B drug MCAT.

The 12-month intensive community order included supervision and unpaid work.

However magistrates were told the 30-year-old breached this by failing to attend two supervision appointments.

Charles Ainley, defending, said Richards had been unable to complete his unpaid work because his arm had been badly broken following an assault.

He said his client had failed to attend his appointments because he was visiting his grandfather who was seriously ill in hospital.

Mr Ainley added Richards had no excuse for not keeping in touch with probation about this.

Magistrates allowed the order to continue but added a week’s curfew. They warned Richards he faces custody if he breaches the order again.
