STUDENT designer Louise Winestone is cutting a dash in the world of fashion.

The Kirklees College fashion design and manufacture foundation degree student has been chosen for the international Golden Shears 2011 competition.

Her tailored jacket will represent the college in the competition next year.

Louise and her fellow students were set a menswear tailoring project by James Michelsberg, of Leeds-based Michelsberg Tailoring and Andrew Knight of Huddersfield-based Cavendish Ltd.

They used a special DNA cloth which can be traced back to its place of manufacture and therefore guarantees authenticity.

James said: “Louise was chosen because of her excellent work ethic, professional aptitude and ability and the design and manufacturing complexity and quality of her finished jacket. We’ll now work together to develop her design.”

Student Rebecca McCathy was highly commended for the workmanship and commerciality of her design. Melissa Newby was highly commended. All are students of Batley School of Art and Design, which is part of Kirklees College.
