KFC was criticised today over a poster which "misleadingly" advertised its spicy zinger chicken for just 50p.

The fast food chain failed to make the terms of the offer clear enough, said the Advertising Standards Authority.

The ad broke rules relating to truthfulness and promotions, said the industry watchdog.

The ASA told KFC to show important promotion conditions more clearly in future adverts.

KFC's 180cm poster included 1cm high text explaining the terms of the 50p price promotion.

It showed a piece of breaded chicken drumstick and a drawing of a sofa.

A large yellow arrow pointed behind the sofa cushion.

Large text on the poster said: "New Spicy Zinger Chicken. To try it just find 50p."

The 1cm high text at the bottom of the poster said the deal was limited to one piece with any KFC bucket or meal, and explained what a "meal" was.

The ASA got complaints from three customers who said the poster was misleading.
