HUNDREDS of people did Slaithwaite proud on Saturday when they turned out for the Christmas lights switch-on.

There were children’s activities, plenty of stalls and entertainers including Huddersfield Rock Choir as well as a group of locals known as the Switch-on Singers.

The fun started at noon and revolved around five sites – the Methodist Church, St James’s Church, Slaithwaite Community Centre, Waves disability learning centre for adults and the ‘round’ car park.

At 4pm everyone packed up and joined Father Christmas at the bottom of Bankgate.

Ali Robson, chairman of Slaithwaite Community Association, said: “It was a lovely day and everything was absolutely brilliant.”
