Huddersfield town centre is decorated, Santa has taken residence in his Kingsgate shopping centre grotto, all the shops are well- stocked and shoppers are milling around with lots of shopping bags.

Christmas carols will soon be heard on every corner and children will glow with excitement.

But the run-up to Christmas is undoubtedly longer and begins earlier than ever before.

And an ICM survey says 85% of us think Christmas has become too commercial.

So has the excitement of Christmas faded? Are we all cynical about the season of joy?

Perhaps in years to come the younger people may find Christmas more stressful.

Yet, generally, the mood is positive and there seems to be very little stress in Huddersfield about Christmas across the board.

Perhaps things may be different in 20 or so days.
