DISABLED people who go riding have appealed for more people to help them.

Huddersfield Riding For The Disabled has around 45 members and operates from just after Easter until September.

The group has now relocated from Lepton to Westwyns Riding School on Manchester Road between Slaithwaite and Marsden.

But the group relies on volunteers to lead the horses or walk alongside to make sure the riders are safe.

Organiser Pat Conroy said: “The riders get so much pleasure. Some smile more on the back of a horse than at any other time and that’s why it is so important to them.

“Volunteers get so much out of helping.’’

The group meets on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm and on Tuesday afternoons from 1.15pm to 2.45pm.

Tuesday organiser Angela Pogson said: “This means people can help and still do the school run.’’

Volunteers don’t need previous experience of horses and can do as many or as few hours as they want.

Huddersfield Riding For The Disabled relies totally on fundraising.
