RAINDROPS on roses and chairs in the lounge was the order of the day at a charity open garden.

Maureen Crossley and her husband, Michael, made their garden in Fenay Bridge open to the public on Saturday in aid of the Forget Me Not Trust.

Although it poured down it failed to dampen the spirits of nearly 70 visitors.

Maureen said: “ It was a wonderful day and we raised £408.63 for the charity.

“Even though the rain poured, everybody who came thoroughly enjoyed the day.

“We served cream teas and Pimms indoors and we filled the lounge and dining room with chairs for everybody.”

“The Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees, Clr Eric and Mrs JanetFirth, opened the event in the morning.

Keen gardeners Maureen and Michael bought the house 11 years ago, Maureen described the site as a “sloping field”.

The garden now has a vegetable patch, a bridge, two summer houses and fantastic views over Huddersfield and Halifax.
