A MUM-of-three will be running the Leeds 10k next month in memory of her sister-in-law, who died from a rare cancer.

Michelle Doyle, 34, from Fenay Bridge, will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support when she runs on Sunday, July 14.

And she is doing the run as a tribute to Hannah Avery (nee Doyle), who was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2010.

As her condition deteriorated, Hannah received tremendous support from Macmillan nurses before she died in February 2012.

Michelle, a Nurture Group Leader at Greenside Infant School in Almondbury, said: “Hannah was taken from us just over a year ago aged just 25, having fought a rare form of liver cancer for two years.

“I really hope I can make her and our family proud by running the Leeds 10k and it would be wonderful to give something back for the wonderful and outstanding care provided by the amazing people at Macmillan.”

Michelle and her husband Shaun, who is Hannah’s brother, have three children.

Michelle admits she was not a runner but she has been training hard for weeks and is now aiming to complete the run in an hour.

“I wanted to do something in her memory and hopefully raise money for a great cause, ” she said.

Viki Nixon, fundraising manager for Macmillan said: “It seems that everyone knows of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer.

“As more people are being diagnosed with cancer and people are living longer, the demand for our services has never been greater. Every penny raised will go to help us reach more of the people who need us.”

Michelle is also running to raise awareness of rare cancers in young people, and encouraging anyone with questions about cancer to ring Macmillan’s Support Line on 0808 808 00 00.
