COMMUNITY activist Yvonne Hutchinson has stepped down from a residents association.

Yvonne lead the Ferndale Residents Association since it was formed in 2008.

She has campaigned for improvements for residents in the area and her work saw a new pedestrian crossing on Bradford Road near Asda.

Ms Hutchinson said: “Since the association started local residents have influenced everything from the goods to be sold in the new Ferndale shop to the Huddersfield North policing priorities.

“I’ll be leaving the association in good health and it’s for someone else to step up and take the reigns.”

Yvonne will take up a challenging new role supporting street sex workers and trafficked women in Leeds.

She will work for the charity Joanna, which helps women wanting to leave prostitution for a new lifestyle.

Yvonne added: “I had quite a traumatic youth where people and institutions gave up on me as a lost cause so I know that many of these women can go on to live rewarding and successful lives and reach their true potential.”
