A MUSIC festival which is growing year on year is preparing for its 2010 event.

Huddersfield Grammar School hosts A Festival of Music, Speech and Drama every year. Last year about 2,000 people attended the event, formerly the Janet Beaumont Festival and there were about 700 performances of music and drama from young people.

Sherie Whittingham-Ball. head of music at Huddersfield Grammar School said: “The festival seems to grow in size every year.

“It is for all ages and is completely own choice which means that competitors can perform all their favourite pieces.

“The ethos of the festival is one of overall enjoyment.”

Last year 10 choirs took part from schools across Kirklees and there were also performances on instruments from piano to electric guitar and lots of singing.

The closing date for entries is March 26 and the weekend of the festival is May 22 and 23.

The syllabus is available from Dolphin Music in Huddersfield, Treble clef music shop in Brighouse, Octave above in Moldgreen and Music 4 all in Marsh.
