FOLK fans are moving indoors.

Revellers will gather in Holmfirth Civic Hall for the finale of the town’s folk festival.

The annual event usually climaxes at the stone auditorium in Victoria Park.

But recent Kirklees Council work to remove the youth shelter also involved the removal of the amphitheatre, leaving festival-goers with nowhere to gather.

But Clr Ken Sims has secured a new venue for the finale of next month’s event.

The Holme Valley South Conservative said: “I’ve talked to the organisers and we’re going to let them use the civic hall free of charge.”

Clr Sims added that temporary seating at Victoria Park was not possible.

He said: “It’s something we were looking at, but council officials were a little worried about that for health and safety reasons.”

But Clr Sims said the folk festival should be back in the park in 2009.

He said: “We’ll have high-class seating there next year.”

The Holmfirth Festival of Folk will run from May 9 to 11. For details visit www.holmfirthfestivaloffolk.co.uk
