SOME of this area’s finest brass bands will be filling shoppers with festive cheer this year.

A number of open-air concerts have been organised in Huddersfield and Dewsbury town centres throughout December to get people in the mood for Christmas.

The free musical treats will take place between 11am and 3pm on Saturdays from December 8 to 22.

Yorkshire Traction and Honley Band, Slaithwaite Silver Band and Emley Band will be entertaining the crowds in New Street, Huddersfield.

Shepley Band, Linthwaite Band and Innovative Skelmanthorpe Band will be playing in Dewsbury’s Market Place.

Clr Liz Smaje, Kirklees Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and neighbourhood services, said: “West Yorkshire is home to many brass bands and the tradition of brass band playing in the open air is still thriving.

“Local bands take part in regular performances and competitions, both a junior and adult level.

“This Christmas programme of concerts is sure to get everyone in the festive spirit.”

A selection of indoor concerts have also been organised at lunchtimes at Huddersfield and Dewsbury town halls.
