Competition for places at Kirklees schools is stiff, but it’s even fiercer at some schools in Calderdale where there are up to eight applications for each place.

In September, 470 students were disappointed not to get in at Brighouse High School which received 680 applications for 210 places.

The Crossley Heath School was also over 300% oversubscribed, with 516 applications for just155 places.

Parents in the Hipperholme and Lightcliffe catchment area have more faith in the high school staff turning things around than in Ofsted’s rating of Special Measures before the summer.

The school has maintained a positive outlook and a good reputation with parents, resulting in it being massively oversubscribed with 735 applications for just 270 places.

The Brooksbank School was almost as oversubscribed with 748 requests for 282 places. Rastrick High had 500 applications for 270 places.

Fifteen primary schools in Calderdale had four or more applications for every place. These include West Vale, with Barkisland being just under with 99 requests for 25 places.

The most oversubscribed school in the whole of Calderdale percentage-wise is the small Warley Town at 8.6 applications for each of the 15 places, followed by Norland, with 60 requests for 10 places.
