DALTON couple Sylvia and Derek Pursell are celebrating their golden wedding tomorrow.

The couple, of Longfield Avenue, were married at Huddersfield Register Office, then on Peel Street.

Mrs Pursell, 70, met her husband-to-be, who is 74, at Bradley and Colnebridge Working Men's Club. She said: "He used to sing a bit and I saw him there one night. He told a friend: `That's the girl I'm going to marry.' "

Mrs Pursell lived with her mother in Bradley and Mr Pursell lived on Leeds Road.

He worked at David Brown Tractors, Meltham Mills, before going to DB Gears at Park Works, Lockwood.

His wife worked at Brook Motors on St Thomas's Road, Folly Hall, but left to bring up the couple's five children.

They now have 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The couple moved to Dalton 48 years ago and are holding a party at the Dram Centre on Ridgeway.
