A GROUP fighting for better facilities in Kirklees for visually impaired people voiced their concerns at a special meeting with the council.

Jean Goodison and Bernadette Kielty met with councillors and Kirklees officers.

They want to see the council establish a centre in south Kirklees specifically for the blind and visually impaired.

They say there is currently a significant lack of resources.

Mrs Goodison said: "What the meeting was about today was to move on from when we presented the 2,000 petition to the full council."

Mrs Goodison said they handed over letters from local schools and voluntary groups highlighting the problem.

She added that the council had an obligation to provide these facilities.

And Mrs Goodison said the meeting was productive.

"They realise that it won't happen over night but they're willing to work with us to achieve aims to provide for these people."
