SCRAMBLING stars will try to unseat Pete Mathia from his position as reigning champion of the Yorkshire Grand National this weekend.

The motorbike race, held every year at Grange Moor, sees vintage vehicles compete for the Yorkshire Twinshock title.

The day of races, which also features modern bikes, starts at 11am on Sunday at the venue off Denby Lane.

Mathia, from Cheshire, faces stiff competition from local entrants in the day's main event featuring pre-1981 bikes up to 500cc.

The day itself attracts riders of all machines from as far afield as Birmingham and Cumbria.

The high-octane fun sees riders speed round the dirt track overcoming wicked jumps and obstacles.

Last year there were more than 30 riders in the final involving older bikes.

About 120 competed throughout the day with a crowd of about 500 turning up to witness the thrills and spills.

There is extensive parking on site.
