ASPIRING young writers are invited to submit scripts for full-length feature films to be shot by a co-operative of colleges and universities.

New works or a contemporary re-telling of an old classic are needed for three new movies scheduled to be shot next summer by The Co-operative British Youth Film Academy (BYFA).

The Academy is a co-operative of 20 colleges and universities, including Kirklees and Bradford Colleges, which gives 14 – 25 year-olds the opportunity to experience a real film set.

Students are mentored by professionals from the world of film and education and explore all aspects of the film-making process.

The academy is backed by The Co-operative group as part of its commitment to inspiring young people and bridges the gap between education and employability.

Michael Fairclough, The Co-operative’s head of community and co-operative investment, said: “When opportunities, passion and enthusiasm collide it can be truly life changing and this is exactly the kind of exciting environment that BYFA creates.”
