A NEW rail operator is urging A-level students to get behind the camera.

Northern - which runs services across the north of England - wants film-makers to make a piece about their local area.

Everyone who enters the competition stands to win £1,000, a year of free travel on Northern trains and £2,500 worth of equipment for their college.

Students can enter the Insight Track contest as individuals or as a group.

Northern commercial director Chris Kimberley said: "We're aiming to lift the lid on real towns across the North, providing people from the rest of the country with a sense of what it's like to live in the north of England."

The film must be no longer than five minutes and has to be submitted by May 10.

The best 15 will go before a panel of judges and the top three will be put to the public vote on Northern's website.
