THE fate of a development of affordable homes hangs in the balance following a fire alarm.

Kirklees Council’s Huddersfield Planning Sub-committee was half-way through considering the application for East Lawns in Lindley when the alarm went off at Huddersfield Town Hall yesterday afternoon.

The meeting was cancelled an hour later.

The disruption puts the future of the development of 12 affordable homes into doubt.

Applicant James Hinchcliffe had warned councillors that Kirklees would lose the £660,000 Government grant if work didn’t begin by March 25.
