A HOUSE was smoke- logged after a blaze started in a dehumidifier.

The owner of a property on Francis Street in Heckmondwike called fire crews after seeing smoke coming from the cellar.

When crews got to the scene two of them wearing breathing apparatus entered the house with a hose reel and found the seat of the blaze to be the electrical item which collects mist from the air to reduce damp.

The ground floor of the terraced property was smoke logged but it had not filtered upstairs, so damage was confined to one level.

Crews from Batley Fire Station were called to the scene at 8.05am yesterday morning.

After fighting the fire crews spoke to neighbours, fitted smoke alarms in homes without them and gave safety advice.
