MARSDEN Fire Station is to close.

Members of West Yorkshire Fire Authority decided today to shut the station - despite a last-ditch plea to save it.

Kirklees councillor Cahal Burke proposed a new look at the workload of the station but his plea was supported by only one member of the authority.  

The station closure is one of a number of cuts determined by the authority today to meet tough new Government spending targets.
