A STUDENT had to be rescued after being locked in after classes last night.

The man in his 30s went to the toilet in Pearl Assurance House but when he came out everyone had gone home and he was locked in.

John William Street in the town centre had to be closed for more than 20 minutes while firefighters used a hydraulic ladder to free him.

Watch manager Andy Blackburn at Huddersfield fire station said: “He shouted out of a window on the second floor for help.

“The building is next door to the Cherry Tree pub, so obviously just before 11pm last night it attracted quite a crowd.

“He had to climb out of the window and on to the platform and was then lowered safely.”
