Firefighters were called out to deal with an incident behind a pub which turned out to be a plastic picnic bench on fire.
A crew from Rastrick fire station dealt with the incident on a field behind the Black Bull pub at Lindley just after 7 tonight.
Thick black smoke from the fire could be seen from some distance away.
A fire service spokesman said the fire had been started deliberately.
