FIREFIGHTERS have been busy tackling a series of arson attacks in the Colne Valley.

At 10.30pm on Saturday a derelict ambulance parked at The Old Goods Yard on Scar Lane at Milnsbridge was set alight.

Slaithwaite firefighters dealt with the blaze.

Hours later, at 2.30am on Sunday, Huddersfield firefighters went to the yard to deal with a car fire.

A Peugeot 405 parked near one of the industrial units had been set ablaze and the flames spread to one of the units.

Slaithwaite firefighters were called out again, at 6.30am on Sunday, when a skip at the Farfields Industrial Estate in the village was set alight.

Crew Manager Steve Mosley, of Slaithwaite fire station, said: "People who start these fires have to realise the fire may spread to other buildings.

"On these occasions the fire service managed to extinguish the flames before they spread too far. But the situation could have been far worse."
