FIRE crews were called out to fight two grass fires yesterday.

A crew from Brighouse fire station were in action on land off Bradford Road, Fixby, close to the Asda supermarket.

They used beaters and a hose reel to put out a fire which spread across 50 square metres of grassland.

The second fire was on land off Halifax Road, Dewsbury, close to the Kirklees College campus.

A man burning bushes in his garden is thought to have started a fire which spread to adjoining grassland.
