MORE than 100 residents had their electricity cut off for five hours because of a massive fire.

Thirty-five firefighters battled the blaze at the Woollen Spinners (Huddersfield) Ltd factory off Plover Road in Lindley on Saturday afternoon.

A fire broke out in the workshop at around 3pm.

Huddersfield watch manager Andy Blackburn said: “It was a difficult fire because there is an electricity sub-station there which serves that part of Lindley. We had to turn the power off for Wellington Mills and Equilibrium Mills – you’re talking about more than 100 residents.”

The power was switched back on at around 8pm when the fire was under control.

Fire crews from Huddersfield, Slaithwaite, Elland and Brighouse were called to the scene.

Firefighters had to get on to the roof of the factory, break their way in and tackle the blaze from above.
