A SHOPKEEPER went back to do some work after hours - and found smoke coming from his newly-fixed roof. Contractors had been re-felting the flat roof at Morton Fine Furnishings on Market Street in Heckmondwike. The owner returned at 6.30pm yesterday to catch up on some work and spotted smoke. Watch manager Glenn Meacham, of Dewsbury fire station, said: "The workmen must have been using heat on the roof and embers had begun to smoulder beneath the felt. It was very lucky the shop owner returned when he did otherwise the fire could have taken hold." The fire was confined to a small area of the roof and no damage was caused to the shop.
