WEST Yorkshire Fire Service's new command units have been a great success, say senior officers

Two Operational Support Units were introduced earlier this year.

One was based in Ossett, near Wakefield, in April and one in Bingley in July.

They have attended more than 500 incidents in the area.

The units are staffed by officers and firefighters.

They respond to a variety of incidents such as those involving hazardous materials, and technical rescues.

Simon Pilling, senior divisional officer said: "The Operational Support Units have been a success for West Yorkshire and we look forward to further units becoming available as part of the brigade's initiatives.

"These additional operational support vehicles and crews mean that there is an enhanced response of a dedicated team who can provide a level of command and appropriate support for the incident."
