A fire investigation team is looking into the cause of a blaze which ripped through a former Dewsbury cafe.

The blaze broke out in a building formerly occupied by Bailey’s Cafe, on Market Place, at around 11.40am on Sunday.

It is not yet known if the fire, which damaged the upstairs former cafe, was accidental or deliberate.

The blaze, which filled a former clothing shop downstairs with smoke, was put out by firefighters from Dewsbury and Mirfield.

Fire crews using a large jet, and smaller hose reel and breathing apparatus took approximately 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The cafe, which had been open for 70 years, closed on Christmas Eve 2014.

The building sold for £95,000 at an auction by Pugh and Company with The Auction People at Elland Road, Leeds, in February 2015.
