A 24-year-old man from Quarmby suffered four hours of excruciating pain last night as medics and firefighters struggled to get a 12mm hardened steel ring off his finger.

The man arrived at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary at 9pm after his friend was unable to get the hardened steel ring off his finger.

Staff there were unable to help so he went to Bradford Royal Infirmary but he had no luck there either.

But Cleckheaton Fire Station was able to help thanks to their special multi-saw which eventually did the trick.

Watch commander Damian Cameron said: "His finger was very swollen and it was extremely difficult to get it off. But at 1.10am we finally managed it. He was quite grateful."
