A FIRE has gutted a classroom at a Dewsbury School.

The blaze broke out at St John Fisher Catholic High School at around 8am on Saturday.

Firefighters from Dewsbury, Cleckheaton and Batley stopped the blaze from spreading within 40 minutes and extinguished the fire shortly afterwards.

Part of the school was damaged and a number of rooms were smoke logged.

An investigation into the blaze began over the weekend, although the fire is not thought to have been started deliberately.
