Firefighters will be performing an emergency exercise at Holywell Green this Sunday, the public are being warned.

The 999 simulation will take place at 10am at the Solvay Halifax site on the Brooklands Industrial Estate.

The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service training exercise will last for about two hours and may be visible to nearby residents as a smoke generator will be used to create a realistic emergency situation.

Residents should not be alarmed or ring the fire service about smoke coming from the site.

The test will also be used by Solvay’s on-site Emergency Response Team to enhance their skills.

The Solvay Halifax site employs 60 people and focuses on the manufacture of surfactants, materials which are used widely in shampoos, detergents and industrial products.

The site also makes chemicals for use in swimming pools.
