HUDDERSFIELD-based nursery retailer Mamas and Papas has given £5,250 to the NSPCC.

Last year the children's charity accepted about 3,000 requests for help from children and families.

The hope is that by becoming involved earlier, the NSPCC can help prevent children from harm. It is this aspect of the charity which the company continues to invest in.

Richard Faulkner, the firm's deputy chief executive, said: "We are proud to be working with the NSPCC and hope that our continued support will help to prevent further cruelty to children."

The firm has been supporting the NSPCC since 1997.

David and Luisa Scacchetti, the couple who founded and still head the firm, found themselves in the list of Britain's 1,000 richest people this month.

The company has 23 stores nationwide and also supports a host of other charities.
