AN appeal to make Christmas more cheerful for less- fortunate people occasion has been launched in this area.

Calderdale and Kirklees Cares – an initiative of Business in the Community – wants community groups and organisations to register for the annual Cares at Christmas Appeal.

Businesses of all sizes can donate gifts or time to local groups, including the homeless, older people, children, parents, disadvantaged adults and young people, and caring organisations.

Cares Co-ordinator Victoria Sutcliffe said: “The generous gifts we receive through our Cares at Christmas Appeal make such a difference and mean so much to the groups we work with in the community and it has grown year on year.

“Last year we received donations and cheques, amounting to a staggering £10,000 worth of gifts, not only from around 17 major businesses but also from small businesses and individual members of the public.
