A BUS operator has vowed that its changes will improve services for passengers in the Huddersfield area.

First says its timetable changes to some routes will cut journey times and improve service reliability.

The new timetable will come into force on Sunday, January 30.

The improvements are the result of customer feedback and a punctuality review using the real time bus information service.

The company pinpointed a small number of services across the area struggling to hit the punctuality levels expected by customers.

So it prepared changes to the bus timetables to ensure services on these routes run more smoothly.

Before Christmas it was announced that the price of bus fares across West Yorkshire will be frozen for the foreseeable future.

The aim is to grow passenger numbers on First buses across the region.

The company says this announcement has generated positive feedback.

Ian Humphreys, managing director for First West Yorkshire, said: “The changes being made are based on information given to us by our customers as well as our Real Time service information.

“They are positive changes that will help us improve our bus journey times as well as our service reliability which can be affected by traffic congestion in busy areas.

“This, in turn, will allow us to build on our recent announcement to freeze our fares in the area and look to grow the number of people travelling on our buses.”

Services that will run to a new timetable include the 336/337 and 387 Huddersfield-Beaumont Park (circular).

Also to be improved is the 346 Huddersfield-Wilberlee. Its 18.00 departure will be moved to 18.10 and operate up to 10 minutes later.

For the 363 Huddersfield-Brighouse-Bradford, Saturday morning buses will increase to operate every 20 minutes from 0900.

The Monday to Friday departure at 16.05 on the 323 service from Huddersfield-Marten Nest will depart at 16.10 and operate five minutes later.

On the 370/1 Rawthorpe/Dalton-Huddersfield-Lindley service the Monday to Friday 18.02 370 departure from Rawthorpe is extended to Lindley and the 18.09 371 departure from Dalton will terminate at Huddersfield (Westgate).
