TIME IS running out for budding anglers to take part in West Yorkshire Police's 12th annual fishing competition.

The closing date for entries to this year's event, which takes place along the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal at Horbury Bridge, is under two weeks away.

The contest, organised by force photographer David Speight, attracts attention from all over the country.

David said: "I would urge anyone to get their entry in quickly. This is a very popular competition and places are limited.

"It is always a really successful event and this year there is a total of £4,000 worth of prizes on offer."

The categories are under-18s and under- 15s. Last year prizes included fishing poles worth £700 and £500.

There will also be other prizes on offer, with the peg draw raffle drawn after the trophy presentation.

Wakefield Angling Club has given the venue, which is the top lock above the Navigation pub beyond Horbury Bridge.

The entry fee is £2, which is given to the Martin House Children's Hospice at Boston Spa, near Wetherby. It is payable on the day.
