WORK to create a better fitness suite at Colne Valley Leisure Centre has begun.

Kirklees Active Leisure and Kirklees Council are revamping the fitness suite at the Slaithwaite site.

It is part of a larger £1.8m refurbishment of the whole centre.

The fitness suite will have 44 pieces of state-of-the-art Technogym equipment.

They will include resistance machines, cardio-vascular machines such as cross-trainers, bikes and treadmills.

The suite will be air-conditioned and have music and visual entertainment, as well as a relaxation area.

Changing rooms will be improved and there will be a new social area with views of the sports hall.

The first phase of the refurbishment took place in May, when windows, ceilings, floor coverings, pipework, lighting and toilets were improved.

The second phase also involves re-roofing, improvements to reception, family changing accommodation and unisex changing rooms.

Better disabled access to spectator areas and changing rooms will also be created.

The suite is expected to open in September and the refurbished pool area will open in January.
