FIVE people have been injured after two trains crashed at a station, police said today.

A train travelling from Manchester Airport crashed into the back of a stationary carriage at Blackpool North station, a Lancashire Police spokesman said.

The crash happened at about 1.05am on platform four and police said five people had been hurt in the crash, but their injuries were described as minor.

The police spokesman said: "British Transport Police have taken charge of the scene and representatives of the Rail Accident Investigation Board are in attendance."

A British Transport Police spokesman said

"The accident happened when the 22.49 Manchester Airport to Blackpool North passenger service, which was braking in order to stop, struck another train which was stationary at platform four."

He said five passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment.
