FIVE young men who were involved in mob violence in Huddersfield town centre have been locked up by a judge.
Bradford Crown Court was yesterday shown CCTV footage of unsuspecting Adrian Thompson, 46, being attacked by Andrew Trayte after a karaoke evening in the Union Bank bar.
Mr Thompson was punched to the ground in nearby New Street and was then subjected to a sustained attack involving punches and kicks. The victim eventually managed to flee the scene, but he suffered fractures to an eye socket and his left cheekbone and later underwent surgery to have a metal plate put in his face.
The court heard when another member of the public, Gary Leathwood, tried to intervene to help he was also attacked by the gang, who also fought with two other men who came across the disturbance last September.
Mr Leathwood, 35, suffered a dislocated shoulder in the violence that night.
Trayte, 22, of Keldregate, Bradley, who was described as the instigator of the violence was jailed for 32 months after he admitted charges of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and assault.
Adam Matthews, 18, of Woodedge Avenue, Dalton, who joined in the attack on Mr Thompson, was sent to a young offenders’ institution for 26 months after pleading guilty to wounding with intent and affray.
Darrel Spink, 23, of Belle Vue Crescent, Brackenhall, was jailed for 12 months for admitted offences of assault and affray.
David Gledhill, 18, of Thornton Lodge Road, Thornton Lodge, was sent to a young offenders’ institution for 10 months for assault and affray.
Conrad Heppinstall, also 18, of Ashenhurst Avenue, Newsome, was locked up for eight months for affray.
