A MOTORWAY service station near Huddersfield has won an award - for its toilets.

Woolley Edge, on the M1 near Bretton, gained a five-star award in the 2004 Loo of the Year competition.

It is the third year running that the service station has triumphed in the contest.

Operations director Brian Larkin said: "About 1,000 people a day use the toilets at Woolley Edge and because they're open round the clock every day of the year keeping them clean is a mammoth task.

"Winning this award is a tribute to the hard work put in by our cleaning staff."

Judges in the competition visited more than 1,000 public toilets across the UK to score them for cleanliness, management, the clarity of signs, accessibility, decor and the standards of fixtures and fittings.
